How to

The Australian School Handwriting Fonts are an English language, OpenType, variable typeface family designed specifically to meet Australian Education standards.

Choose a State

In lower primary school some Australian States teach different handwriting styles, while some States share the same style. Included in the downloads are “documentation” folders which contain PDF’s for each State’s style requirements.

Ongoing & Future Development

Although the design phase has been completed, some transitional precursive glyph-sets (and small caps) are still under development, along with some small caps (marked with ❌ above). Check the individual font page for updates.

The full cursive counterparts (for years 4-5 onward) will be developed in due course, using a different software package designed specifically for fully joined cursive fonts in school/teaching environments. Advanced math symbols will also come along with future development.

OpenType Features

OpenType is a format for scalable computer fonts developed jointly by Microsoft and Adobe as an extension of Apple’s TrueType font format.

AU School Handwriting Fonts can also be used in software that supports OTF (such as Microsoft Word, Adobe products or Mac’s native Pages application) to make full use of alternate glyphs for precursive variations (as shown below).

By adjusting the scaling of the watermark image, the document’s top margin and line spacing as well as the font size, almost any type of ruled page can be produced.
